It is an executable created with NSIS (Nullsoft Scriptable Install System), designed to automate game installation or patching in a single setup.
I completely understand the hesitation around running installers from unknown sources (I feel the same way). That's why I’ve made the "recipes" (scripts) open-source on GitHub, and the executables are built directly through GitHub Actions for added transparency and security.
Furthermore, the installers do not require administrator rights, except when absolutely necessary.
It's just a play on words between the name of my website, MulderLand, and what one might call download software. Hence, MulderLoad.
A MulderLoad installer may fail to run for several reasons, most commonly due to security settings.
Mark of the Web (MOTW)
One of the primary causes is the "Mark of the Web" (MOTW) feature in Windows, which prevents executables downloaded from the internet from running automatically for safety purposes.
To resolve this, you can right-click on the installer file, select 'Properties', and then check for an 'Unblock' option at the bottom of the Properties window. If present, check the box and click 'Ok'.
Unknown Publisher Warning
I use a self-signed certificate to sign all MulderLoad installers, as obtaining a trusted certificate can be both costly and time-consuming. All MulderLoad installers are signed by the same certificate during the build executed by GitHub Actions.
While I don’t recommend it as the first option, if your antivirus or Windows security policies are blocking the installer due to an 'unknown publisher' warning, you can choose to add my self-signed certificate as a trusted publisher on your system. The main advantage of this is not just permanently removing the warning, but also ensuring that all future MulderLoad installers you download are genuinely from me and have not been tampered with.
If you want to do so, follow these steps to add my certificate as a trusted publisher:
- Download the Certificate
First, download my certificate from this link: https://www.mulderland.com/mulderload.cer
- Start certificate installation
- Double-click the downloaded mulderload.cer file.
- In the window that opens, click "Install Certificate".
- Choose the store certificates location
- If you are an Administrator, select "Local Machine"; if not, choose "Current User". Click Next.
- Choose "Place all certificates in the following store" and click "Browse".
- Select "Trusted Root Certification Authorities", then click "OK".
- Click "Next", and then "Finish".
- Verify the Security Warning
- Please check that the Thumbprint matches the following value:
FDA841C9 FF6CCA47 9203B8A9 7B5883C6 0BDC95C8 - If it matches, click "Yes" to continue.
- If the thumbprint doesn’t match, click "No", close all related windows, and contact me immediately.
- Click "Next", and then "Finish".
- Confirm the import
After clicking Yes, you should see a confirmation message: "The import was successful". Click "OK" to complete the process.
The next time you run a MulderLoad installer, you should no longer receive a warning about an untrusted publisher. Additionally, if you run the installer as Administrator and see the UAC (User Account Control) prompt, you should see "MulderLoad" listed as a "Verified Publisher" with the green alien icon.
If you're using a VPN, please disable it and try again. If you're not using a VPN, you can try enabling one. Depending on your country, a VPN can either help or block your downloads, so it’s worth trying both options.
I strive to provide fast download speeds, but sometimes network conditions are beyond my control. Additionally, I occasionally use Archive.org for legal reasons, and their servers can sometimes be slower (but let's not complain; it's a true blessing that this site exists). If you're experiencing slow download speeds, please try again later. You might also consider using a VPN, as it could improve speeds in some cases, depending on your location and network conditions.
